The date of the General Assembly of E.C.C.O. has been postponed: New date Sunday, 13th June 2010, 9:00-17:00 Flight Disruptions due to Volcano Eruption in Island made it necessary to postpone the GA of E.C.C.O. 2. CHARISMA "Cultural Heritage Advanced Research Infrastructures" For the period from March, 2009 through July, 2013, CHARISMA provides opportunities to research teams from European Member States or Associated States, to conduct their research, thereby providing transnational access to 11 of the most advanced European facilities centres currently operating, including neutron to synchrotron and ion beam methods, micro-focussed spectroscopy, and multispectral high-resolution imaging. These are offered via three defined access programs (ARCHLAB, FIXLAB and MOLAB). For more information and application modalities see: http://www.charismaproject.eu 3. Meeting in Sofia (2009) together with professional organisations from the area of Council of Europe ECROP will be open to all the professional organisations wishing to participate in forming a common platform to promote a closer exchange of information and experiences. Improved communication will enhance, for example, the ability of individual organisations to argue for upgrading their legal status and improving the quality management of the profession within their countries. 4. "Competences for access to the Conservation-restoration profession" will be presented at the E.C.C.O. General Assembly 2010 This document arises from a mandate given by the E.C.C.O. committee at the General Assembly held in March 2008 to propose entry level competences and the proficiency of a person qualifying to use the title of Conservator-Restorer. It corresponds to the Descriptors given in the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 7, which equates to a postgraduate academic Master degree in accordance with E.C.C.O./ENCoRE guidelines. The work supports the delivery of the professional Conservator-Restorer qualification through an academic route but it is acknowledged that there are other routes into the profession that provide a similar level of skills, knowledge and competence. 5. Florence declaration – recommendation for the preservation of analogue photo archives 31st October 2009 The main role of photo archives, like that of every archive, is to guarantee the conservation and future accessibility of documents from the past for their possible future use for research purposes. The introduction of digital technologies has made new, powerful tools available for conservation and access requirements. However, the debates on digitalization imply that once digitally reproduced, the original artefacts can be removed from consultation or even dispensed with altogether. The Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut on the other hand, supported by the other subscribers to these recommendations, believes that it is essential for the future of studies in historic, human and social sciences to generate a greater understanding of the inescapable value of photographs and analogue archives.
