At the 20th Anniversary Meeting, E.C.C.O. presented its latest publication, Competences for Access to the Conservation-Restoration Profession. "This booklet, published by the European Confederation of Conservator-Restorers' Organisations (E.C.C.O.) defines the competences required to enter the profession of Conservation-Restoration and is primarily intended for E.C.C.O. member organisations. Combining the concept mapping technique with the language of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), a framework has been created that describes the areas of competence required for access to the Conservation-Restoration Profession and legitimate use of title.
The work is based on exisiting definitions of
Conservation-Restoration and the recognition that the
Conservator-Restorer has a public responsibility to contribute to the
preservation of cultural property and dissemination of related knowledge
for the benefit of present and future generations. By using the
framework regardless of specialism it is hoped the Conservator-Restorer
will be able to recognise the level and scope of competences required
for professional practice. In mapping and evaluating the activities of
the Conservator-Restorer, the special skill, knowledge and experience
that gives this person the authority to act directly on the cultural
heritage is identified."
